Habit Trackers (Android)

What was I looking for?

  • Simple Interface - easy to add/view habits 

  • Metrics - % achieved, current streak, longest streak etc. 

  • Allows adding multiple habits (at least 8-10)

  • Ad-free (in-app upgrades are ok)

  • No frills (minimal time required to track)


Nice to Have: 

  • Re-order habits 

  • Schedule non-daily habits (for eg. 3 times a week)

  • Medals

  • View or update status for a past day

  • Widgets 

  • Export Data


After testing about 25 odd apps, I narrowed it down to these four. 



Loop Habit Tracker



Special Feature: 

Ability to set frequency, Widgets


Pros:

Simple interface, easy to add/edit habits 

View up to 12 habits on the same screen, no need to scroll

Ability to choose the number of times the habit should be tracked 

Re-order habits 

Metrics: by week/month, streaks, frequency

Can view and update status for past days 

Has an option to set reminders (in a question format)

Can undo a status if marked incorrectly

Export and import data


Cons: 

Streaks not part of the Overview stats, need to scroll down to view 

Widget available but only for one task at a time

Limited colors to assign to habits


Best option if you have more habits to track and need the flexibility to update status for past days

Medals, Current Streak and Longest Streak


Pros:

Simple interface, easy to add/edit habits

Easy to scan through Metrics, includes current and longest streak 

Medals assigned at every 3 day milestone for the streak up to 21 days 

Option to share medal achievements on social media

Reorder habits

Can undo a status if marked incorrectly

Has an option to set reminders 


Cons: 

Only shows up to 5 habits on the screen, need to scroll if you have more

Only shows the habits for the current day, cannot view or edit past days 

No option to set frequency of habits

Limited colors to assign to habits


Best option if you can remember to track your habits on the same day and don’t need to set frequency (daily habits)

Special Feature: 

Skip a day, Set specific start date, Frequency of habits


Pros:

Simple interface, easy to add/edit habits

Ability to skip a day or mark it as not done 

Can undo a status if marked incorrectly

Ability to choose the number of times the habit should be tracked 

Set specific start date and end date while adding a habit 

Re-order habits 


Cons: 

Only shows up to 4 habits on the screen, need to scroll if you have more

Only shows the habits for the current day, cannot view or edit past days 

Limited metrics - shows current streak and number of successful weeks 

Bugs with metrics - may show a week long streak even with missed days

Limited colors to assign to habits




Special Feature: 

Visual icons, Set Goals as per time (Morning, Evening, Anytime etc), Set a 21 day challenge, Pomodoro timer


Pros:

Set Goals as per time (Morning, Evening, Anytime etc). 

Can view status for past days in the metrics 

Can set frequency including multiple times a day (for eg. drink water) 

Can set a 21 day Challenge 

Has an option to set reminders 


Cons: 

Habit creation steps a bit more involved (pick a icon etc)

Cannot reorder habits 

Habits are grouped by time, habits in the Anytime category show before the Morning category 

Cannot undo once a task is marked as done
